SyncParty synchronizes standard HTML5 playback controls between people who voluntarily join the same watch-party room. It does not access, copy, download, decrypt, or transmit streaming video or audio.
Data SyncParty processes
- A temporary room code and chosen display name
- The streaming-platform title URL, title identifier, and optionally the visible title name
- Playback state such as play, pause, current time, and playback rate
- Connection status, viewer count, chat messages, and reactions
- Information voluntarily submitted through the feedback form
The extension stores its current room, display name, and configuration state locally in the user's browser using Chrome storage.
Server data
The SyncParty server temporarily keeps active room information, chat messages, and the latest playback state in memory. Empty rooms expire after 30 minutes. Feedback submitted voluntarily is stored for support and product follow-up until it is no longer needed. SyncParty does not use this information for advertising, tracking, profiling, or sale.
Permissions
SyncParty requests access to supported streaming-platform pages to detect the current title and control standard HTML5 playback. It requests access to the SyncParty server to create rooms and synchronize playback. It uses the tabs permission to identify the active streaming-platform tab and keep the popup and in-page overlay consistent.
Remote code
SyncParty does not download or execute remotely hosted code. The remote server only exchanges room metadata, chat messages, reactions, and playback synchronization messages.
